Sammy Pow Pow

Sammy Pow PowHi, I’m formerly Sammy, now names Gunther! I found somebody to make every single day a safe and loving experience>.

As the Polar Vortex of February became an arctic start to March, Sammy — Now Gunther — and his sister were surviving in an abandoned house, huddling near an oily kerosene heater. Toxic fumes permeated their dense, black fur. They cowered at the sight of strangers, unsure of the dark world they had been thrust into for the longest, coldest, loneliest month. Their owners, unable to to keep more than two dogs in their new space, thought this was the answer.

Once pulled from the wreckage, the female went to the kind folks at Out of the Pits while Gunther was safe with us.

Gunther at Dog House Adoptions 369

Marianne Hoeppner and her husband had been looking for another dog after having to put their sick Collie down unexpectedly in mid-April. First they tried offering love to our Blazer, but their son’s dog, Jadden, who spends a great deal of time with them, wasn’t receptive to a rambunctious puppy. The search continued until hen Marianne came to volunteer during puppy kindergarten class. It was there where she met Gunther, a dog who fit perfectly within her household.

Gunther found an understanding home who, through trust, reached beyond his shy side to draw out his capacity for great confidence. They didn’t let his early timidity dissuade them. He’s already making great strides. He is young and will quickly learn to trust all the blessings that life has to offer.

Hi Kim and Cassie,
Things are going very well with Sammy. After you left Cassie, he seemed so sad. He is starting to get used to the house and the family. A couple of minor “peeing and pooping accidents” but that’s to be expected. And the best news is he and Jadden are getting along as well. Jadden is doing much better. I know Sammy is a keeper 🙂

Thanks for this opportunity.

Things are going well. We opted not to put Sammy in the crate last night and put him in the master bathroom with a baby gate. It was perfect because I could see him and he could see me. He was perfect all night! I took him out at 4:30 am  🙂 and he did his business. He’s been great all morning. He loves my son Bobby and my husband Frank. He’s walking wonderfully leash.

Jadden is still letting him know he is the boss but Sammy is definitely respecting Jadden. My son Bobby wants Sammy for himself, the two have bonded but I told him he is out of luck.

We just love this little man. I prayed for the right dog and almost gave up. He is awesome. He is learning to jump on furniture which is not always what you want but I want him to know this is his home. Tonight I had the best greeting in a long time, both dogs were there and were happy to see me. What a wonderful feeling! As much as he may have needed us, we needed him more.

Hi Kim,

We are very excited about Sammy becoming a member of our family. Thank you so much. He is so mellow and wonderful. He is slowing making himself at home. Last night when I went into the family room, my husband was sound asleep in his chair and Sammy was sound asleep on the sofa. I wish I had I had a photo. Jadden is still letting him know he’s the boss but I believe in time, they will be buddies. I have attached a photo my son just took of Jadden and Sammy.

I just bought him a dog bed, a bone and a toy. It was great to be able to buy dog items again.

I hope you both won’t be upset with me but I needed to change his name. We just lost a Sammy and every time I called for him I expected to see the collie. I didn’t think that was fair to Sammy Pow Pow. He named him Gunther. I found out it means warrior, which I think fits him because he endured so much. But I do want  you to know that he is a treasure and my family is blessed to have him.
